Market Gardening: A Sustainable Response to Ecosystem Degradation
As part of our commitment to environmental conservation and improving the living conditions of local communities, our vegetable farming project is gradually entering its final operational phase. This innovative and promising initiative, implemented alongside our reforestation efforts, addresses a dual need: generating sustainable income for local communities while protecting fragile ecosystems.
Thanks to the invaluable support of our partner Join For Water, we have installed a high-performance solar-powered pumping system capable of delivering water to the plateau to irrigate crops. This technological solution is environmentally friendly, reduces dependence on fossil fuels, and promotes clean, climate-resilient agriculture.
Our production focuses on the crops most commonly consumed locally, with the goal of strengthening food security while creating economic opportunities for rural families. By promoting vegetable farming rather than extensive or destructive agricultural practices (such as deforestation for charcoal or slash-and-burn agriculture), we offer a viable alternative that preserves soil, forests, and water sources.
This project is part of a long-term vision: to build a green rural economy where communities can make a decent living from the land without destroying it. We believe that by responsibly utilizing local resources, it is possible to combine socioeconomic development with ecological balance.
