Fish Farming News at Faja Lobi
Today, at Faja Lobi, one of our tilapia breeding ponds was drained to allow the fingerlings to be transferred to new fish ponds.
10,000 young tilapia will be distributed among ponds covering an area seven times that of the original pond.
We train local fish farmers to build their own ponds, and then they receive their first fingerlings to get their business started.
Objective: To boost local production, reduce imports, and support rural economies.
Coming soon: Clarias (Ngolo / catfish)
Thanks to support from the provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders, we are preparing to launch a breeding center for Clarias, a catfish that is very popular locally.
The large fish in the photo are specimens that were tested last year.
With the new center, we will be able to produce several hundred thousand Clarias each year and distribute them throughout the country.
Fewer imports ➝ More local production ➝ Less capital outflow ➝ Less poverty.
